ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Genetics and Bioengineering (GBE) undergraduate program at Yeditepe University is unique in its vision which combines basic Genetics science and education with Engineering practices, aimed to provide unparalleled assets to the students. The curriculum includes the education of Genetic Engineering as well as basic Tissue Engineering techniques, along with a selection of courses that aim mainly to direct the students towards graduate study in various fields including Molecular Biology and Genetics, Bioinformatics, Protein Chemistry and Protein Engineering, and Stem Cell Research. Genetics and Bioengineering graduates are expected to find employment opportunities in a variety of positions in academia, industry, clinical medicine, forensic research and government, at national and international levels.
Our Department is equipped with state-of-the-art Tissue Culture Facilities and Molecular Biology and Genetics Research Laboratory, in addition to excellent undergraduate student laboratories. So as to introduce our students to different work environments and increase their versatility and employability, our students are encouraged to conduct their 30-day summer practice in molecular biology and genetics laboratories either in another university or in the industry, in addition to their regular graduation project under close supervision of a faculty member at Yeditepe University.
We provide obligatory as well as elective courses that are aimed to strengthen their presentation and communication skills. Our students are allowed to choose technical electives from other Engineering departments such as Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Computer Engineering, to add to their general engineering skills.
Our Department offers General and Modern Biology and Genetics courses to other Faculties as part of its regular duties.
The quality of the students, the dedication of our staff, and the rich, interdisciplinary environment at Yeditepe University and Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, add to the unusual strengths of our Department.
